Application Fee: $250.00 (Refund Policy: All refund requests must be submitted via email to stem-precollege@uncc.edu and received 30 days prior to the start date of the program. No refunds will be granted within 30 days of the event. Refund request will take 2-3 weeks to process. There are no refunds for no-shows. A non-refundable, non-transferable deposit of $100.00 will be retained for each enrollment payment. No exceptions.)

Description:
Embark on an exciting mathematical journey tailored to the 6th Grade Mathematics North Carolina Core Standards for the initial six weeks of the course! Our week-long summer program offers a blend of interactive classroom instruction, hands-on experiments, and engaging activities to strengthen your mathematical skills and foster a love for problem-solving.
Schedule:
Day 1: Number Sense and Operations
- Morning Session (9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.): Explore the fundamentals of number sense, including place value, operations with whole numbers, and decimals through interactive discussions and activities.
- Lab Session (10:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.): Engage in hands-on experiments and games to reinforce understanding of numerical concepts and operations.
Day 2: Fractions and Decimals
- Morning Session (9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.): Dive into the world of fractions and decimals, learning about equivalent fractions, operations with fractions, and decimal operations.
- Lab Session (10:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.): Participate in interactive fraction and decimal manipulative activities to deepen comprehension and problem-solving skills.
Day 3: Ratios, Rates, and Proportional Relationships
- Morning Session (9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.): Discover the concepts of ratios, rates, and proportions, including solving problems involving proportional relationships.
- Lab Session (10:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.): Explore real-life scenarios and conduct experiments to understand the application of ratios and proportions in various contexts.
Day 4: Geometry: Shapes and Measurement
- Morning Session (9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.): Explore geometric concepts, including classifying two-dimensional shapes, calculating area and perimeter, and understanding angle relationships.
- Lab Session (10:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.): Participate in geometric construction projects, measurement activities, and shape exploration to deepen understanding of geometric principles.
Day 5: Culminating Projects and Presentations
- Morning Session (9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.): Work on culminating projects integrating concepts learned throughout the week.
- Presentation Session (10:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.): Showcase your projects to peers and instructors, reflecting on your mathematical journey and problem-solving achievements.
