Saturday Data Science Academy for High School Students

Join us for an immersive five-Saturday and two-Thursday program designed to introduce high school students to the exciting world of data science! Our academy combines direct instruction, problem-based learning, and cooperative learning techniques to provide a comprehensive and engaging learning experience.

Location: UNC Charlotte Woodward Building

Audience: High school students interested in data science 

Capacity: 25 students, grades 9 to 12

Program Highlights:

1. Direct Instruction: Expert instructors will deliver interactive lectures and presentations to introduce students to key concepts in data science. Topics covered will include data analysis, data visualization, statistical methods, machine learning, and more.

2. Problem-Based Learning: Students will engage in hands-on, project-based activities and exercises designed to reinforce learning objectives. Through real-world data sets and case studies, students will tackle practical challenges and develop problem-solving skills.

3. Cooperative Learning: Collaborative learning activities will encourage students to work together in teams to solve problems and complete projects. This cooperative learning approach fosters communication, teamwork, and peer-to-peer support.

4. Guest Speakers: Industry professionals and guest speakers from the field of data science will share their insights and experiences with students, providing valuable perspectives on career paths and opportunities in the field.

5. Final Project Showcase: At the end of the program, students will have the opportunity to showcase their projects and findings to their peers, instructors, and invited guests. This culminating event celebrates students’ accomplishments and allows them to demonstrate their newfound skills and knowledge.
