Math Data Detectives – Middle School Scholars

UNC Charlotte STEM Pre-College Program
Dates: June 15–19, 2026
Time: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. (daily)
Location: UNC Charlotte
Capacity: 30 students
Program Overview
Math Data Detectives is an immersive, week-long STEM enrichment experience designed for middle school students who demonstrate average to above-average aptitude in mathematics and a strong interest in STEM disciplines. Hosted by the UNC Charlotte STEM Pre-College Program, this academy challenges students to think critically, analyze data, and apply mathematical reasoning to authentic, real-world problems.
Each day is structured to mirror collegiate and professional STEM learning environments. Students participate in interactive lectures during the first half of the day to build foundational knowledge and explore core concepts. Following lunch, scholars work collaboratively in small teams to solve, test, and present solutions to data-driven challenges introduced earlier that morning. Through this model, students strengthen skills in mathematics, science, technology, and engineering while developing collaboration, communication, and problem-solving competencies.
This program is intended solely for STEM enrichment. It does not provide remedial instruction for students who are currently struggling in mathematics or other STEM subject areas.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
- Open to middle school students (rising grades 6–8)
- Students should demonstrate average to above-average performance in mathematics and an interest in STEM
To apply, families must:
- Complete the online application
- Submit the student’s most recent report card
- Pay the non-refundable registration fee of $200
Admission is competitive and limited to 30 participants.
