Saturday Academy

The Center for STEM Education at UNC Charlotte offers a STEM Pre-College Program to broaden the pool of students pursuing mathematics, science, and engineering majors and careers. Students in grades 6-12 with interests in math and science are encouraged to apply.

The program consists of ten Saturdays during the academic year. Historically, participants engage in various hands-on-enrichment activities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Activities include: field trips, lectures and demonstrations by UNC Charlotte faculty/staff/students, robotics; math and science competitions, SAT/ACT preparation; STEM Fairs, Science Olympiad and more.  

Registration

Registration for Spring 2024 will open November 1, 2023 and will close on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. Please make sure that you submit via email to stem-precollege@uncc.edu via pdf the following required documents:

  • Application;
  • Application Fee ($50.00);
  • Medical insurance card; and 
  • One (1) teacher recommendation;
  • Transcript/most recent report card (GPA 2.5 or higher/grade of “C” or higher in the student’s math/science classes)

Re-enrollment

Students who participated in the Fall 2023 STEM Pre-College Program are required to complete the following for participation during the Spring 2024 program:

  • Application;
  • Application Fee ($50.00); and 
  • Transcript/most recent report card (GPA 2.5 or higher/grade of “C” or higher in the student’s math/science classes)

April 13 (STEM Day – 40 students max) – 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

April 14 (NC Science Festival) – 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

April 27 – 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM

May 18 – 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM
